Learning how to taste wines is a straightforward adventure that will deepen your appreciation for both wines and winemakers. Look, smell, taste - starting with your basic senses and expanding from there you will learn how to taste wines like the pros in no time! Keep in mind that you can smell thousands of unique scents, but your taste perception is limited to salty, sweet, sour and bitter. It is the combination of smell and taste that allows you to discern flavor.
Our goal is to have fun combined with an education of wine and all elements that can go together and make wine tasting enjoyable. We will learn about all the varieties of grapes, how wine is made, where it is made, how to taste and judge wines and how to select and pair wine with food.
We plan to hold various types of wine tasting events throughout the year. Each month a member will host a different type of party from vertical to horizontal, experiment with new or unusual varietals, new versus old world or local versus foreign as well as various price points. It takes a long time to become a sommelier but we will have a good time and may at least become a little bit more knowledgeable and take steps towards become a wine connoisseurs.
