Modeled on the Beardstown Ladies Investment club - a famous group of 16 middle aged and retired ladies from Beardstown, Ill - a small town of 6,000. They wrote a book on how to start an investment club for education and fun. Between 1984 and 1994 their group - meeting regularly for education, socializing and to make a small profit - had an average return of more than 23% annually. Their monthly dues were modest: 100$ to join and 25$/month.
Their "how to book" is going to be a big help to us to get started. It outlines details of how to start a club and how to choose great companies on sale. The members will learn how to research, recommend and follow our own investments. The meetings will be once a month and promise education, a lot of fun and very low stress. Everyone who has any curiosity about the stock market is encouraged to join us!
